Today, April 25, 2023, the Second Resolution of Modifications to the General Rules of Foreign Trade for 2023 was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation.
Following is a summary of the points that, in our opinion, could be the most relevant:
- The period allowed to store merchandise in a “Recinto fiscalizado estratégico” (Free Trade Zone) granted in rule 4.8.2 was reduced from 60 to 24 months under Art. 135-C of the Customs Law.
The rest of the modifications are aimed to:
- Adjust legal references or references to government offices mentioned in different rules.
- Establish deadlines to process authorizations to operate as a customs agency.
- Improve the writing of rules for better understanding or application.
In summary, these modifications do not identify relevant issues for importers, exporters, or the maquiladora industry.
